The Department of Theatre Management was officially renamed in September, 2012 from its original version of ‘The Department of Art Management’ when it was founded in 2000. It adheres to the Academy’s educational philosophy of “building a solid foundation and emphasizing practice”, upholding holistic education. In terms curriculum design, we balance theoretical accomplishment and practical experience by arranging both theoretical education in class and hands-on training.
The Department runs undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes, including a four-year BA programme in Art Management (respectively specializing in Performance Production and Theatre Management), a research master’s degree program in Theory and Practice of Theatre Management and a professional master’s degree programme in Theatre Management, as well as a three-year doctoral degree in Theatre Management Studies.
The Department has a professional faculty team that covers all research areas of theatre art management, featuring members of diverse academic backgrounds such as Studies of Theatre, Film and TV Art, Management, Law and Economics.
The BA programme in Art Management (Performance Production) aims to cultivate professional planner of theatre performances, managers of theatre production. The graduates are expected to work as managers in art troupes, performance production companies and entertainment agencies. On their syllabus are Theatre Production and Operation, Stage Management, Entertainment Agency, Cultural Activity Management, Fundamentals of Theatre Group Management, Basics of Theatre Management, Performance Planning, Tour Planning and Production, Essentials of Economics, Fundamentals of Accounting, Art Law, Play Analysis and Appreciation, Play-writing, Performance Marketing, Theory on Acting and Directing, Hands-on Training, etc
