The Department of Film & TV Art

The Department of Film & TV Art aspires to train professionals in film and television art for the country and even the world. Since its establishment in 1999, the Department has been adhering to the Academy’s educational philosophy of “building a solid foundation and emphasizing practice”. Building on the educational achievements of CAD’s preponderant disciplines, the Department leverages the abundant resources of the research, creation and production of Film and Television Art. The faculty team of the Department features high level of education. 64% of full-time teachers have senior job titles, and 50% are research supervisors for postgraduates.

4 teaching and research sections have been established, respectively for Directing for Film and TV Art, Screenwriting and History for Film and TV Art, Film and TV Production, and Broadcasting & Anchoring.

The Department offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes, and runs a mobile station for post-doctoral students.

We have BA programmes in Directing (for Film), Art Management (for Film and TV Production), Recording Art (for the Design and Production of Film Sound), and Broadcasting & Anchoring (for Broadcasting and TV Programmes). The programme in Directing (for Film) is to nurture professional film director capable of screenwriting as well. Students of Film and TV Production are future producers, distributers and marketers for the film and television industry, as well as managers, organizers and planners for various types of institutions and international cultural exchange projects in the cultural and creative industries. Students of Sound Design and Production for Film are expected to design and produce sounds for the film and TV industry, and to be potential audio designers and producers for other media forms. With Broadcasting & Anchoring (for Broadcasting and TV Programmes), the Department aims to nurture professional hosts with the abilities of interviewing, editing and producing.

For postgraduate students, we have master’s and doctoral degree programmes in Theory and Practice of Film, Screen-writing and Its Theory, Film Production and Management, Film Production and Distribution, Techniques for Film Sound Production, and Broadcasting & Anchoring.

In recent years, our students’ works have been entries of many important international film festivals or student short films sections, such as Cannes International Film Festival in France, Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, Moscow International Film Festival in Russia, the Festival des 3 Continents in France, International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands, New York City International Film Festival in the United States, Busan International Film Festival in ROK, the Micro Film Competition under Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, Original Film Competition under Film Festival for Beijing College Students, Global Chinese Universities Students Film & Television Festival, among other international and domestic film events.
