The Department of the Teaching and Research of Ideological and Political Theory was formally established in June 2011. It offers courses Ideological and Political Theory to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students in the Academy, comprising 16 public compulsory theoretical courses and practical ones. Now there are 8 full-time teachers in the faculty team working for the two teaching and research sections respective for Ideological and Political Theory and Military Theory. The Department is administrated by its director and a part-time secretary.
The modules open to undergraduate students include ‘Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era’, ‘Introduction to Mao Zedong Thought and Socialism with Chinese Characteristics’, ‘The Basic tenets of Marxism’, ‘Ideology, Morals, and Laws’, ‘Essentials of Chinese Modern History’, ‘Evolution of Communist Party of China’, and ‘Current Situations and Policies’.
The modules open to postgraduate and doctoral students include ‘Research on the Theory and Practice of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era’, ‘Marxism and Methodology of Social Sciences’, ‘Chinese Marxism and the Contemporary Times’, ‘Selected Works of Marx, Engels and Lenin’, etc.
The Department runs its courses by strictly conforming to the ‘Eight Principles’. It constantly improves the overall strength of its faculty team. To closely follow the theoretical trend, expand teachers' teaching vision and strengthen teaching exchanges, the Department encourages the teachers to participate in teaching activities, exchanges and field trips organized by the Ministry of Education the Ministry of Education, Beijing Municipal Education Work Committee, and other authorities. It actively holds themed lectures and colloquiums, such as ‘Passing on the Revolutionary Spirit in the New Era’, ‘Today’s International Security Situation’, and ‘China-Us Relations’.
Our faculty members, having a keen interest in scientific research and innovation, have managed to get their research projects approved at the ministerial, municipal and collegiate levels, and published a number of monographs and academic papers. One of its courses, ‘Practice of Mao Zedong Thought and Socialism with Chinese Characteristics’, was listed among ‘National First-class Courses for Undergraduates’; and another course, ‘Introduction to Mao Zedong Thought and Socialism with Chinese Characteristics’, was listed as a Beijing municipal key project of quality courses for undergraduates.
