The Department of Science Theatre was founded in Jun. 6, 2023, as one of the fruitful results from a CAD’s project, Key Laboratory of Intelligent Dramatic Art Space, Ministry of Education. It centres around ‘digital drama’, the science-based sub-discipline initiated by the CAD. Building on the essence of theatre, it stresses interdisciplinary research and education. It has been established in the light of China’s strategic plan to develop cultural digitalization, with the aim to nurture interdisciplinary generalists that can integrate cultural technology with theatre, film and TV arts, and can live up to China’s strategic plans.

The Department is responsible for the construction and operation of Key Laboratory of Intelligent Dramatic Art Space. It works with national and international experts for innovation, to carry out the major missions commissioned by the authorities at state, provincial, and industrial levels. 

The Department manages the Institute for Advanced Research of Digitalization of Traditional Chinese Theatre, an entity platform for scientific and technological innovation sponsored by the program of Outstanding Young Scientists in Beijing Colleges and Universities.
