The Department of Science Theatre As is innovative achievement in talent cultivation models and a platform for fostering innovative talents in new liberal arts under the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Dramatic Art Space of the Ministry of Education. It works to align with the national strategy for cultural digitization and the emerging industry demands of new forms of artistic production. Grounded in the essence of theatre itself, the department emphasizes interdisciplinary education, focusing on the application of cutting-edge technologies such as information technology and intelligent technology in the field of theatrical art in the digital era.Its mission is to cultivate interdisciplinary, innovative professionals who are well-versed in drama creation with robust digital literacy for creative digital productions.

The department currently offers undergraduate programmes in Digital Drama (a five-year programme), Acting (for Digital Drama), Directing for Theatre, Film and Television Arts (Performing Arts in Digital Space), and Digital Media Arts. At the postgraduate level, it offers research directions in the Application of Theatre Digitization, Theatre Digitization Studies, and Directing for Digital Drama. The department also provides doctoral programs in Digitization of Traditional Theatre, Artificial Intelligence in Theatre, Studies of Digital Technology and Cultural Systems, Digital Drama Creation, Cultural Technology, Digital Theatre, Cultural Law Studies, as well as Theatre and Media Studies.

The department engages in the operations of Key Laboratory of Intelligent Dramatic Art Space approved by the Ministry of Education. Focusing on our core research priorities and strategic tasks, we will collaborate with leading domestic and international teams to drive joint innovation, while taking on major projects at the national, municipal, and industrial levels.  It hosts two prominent research centres: the Centre for the Contemporary Inheritance and Innovation of Traditional Theatre (the only Beijing-based philosophical and social science innovation centre in the arts) and the Advanced Research Centre for Digitization of Traditional Drama.
