Strasbourg National School of Theatre Arts, France
2012-07-12

Strasbourg National School of Theatre Arts is a national vocational school under the guidance of Ministry of Culture. Since its establishment by Michel Saint-Denis in 1954, the characteristics of the school are twofold: its existence inseparable from that of theatre, which shares the room and infrastructure; its pedagogical logic is interdisciplinary, which forms in promoting students and groups of actors and actresses, stage managers, creators, scene-costume supervisors, directors, as well as scriptwriters.

Strasbourg National Theatre has its alienable uniqueness: it is the only national theatre who has a theatre school in its structure. It is an advantage and a chance to which should be paid high attention. There is a cooperative relation between theatre activities and school activities who needs to be confirmed and developed: the invention of theatre program and school activities shall be treated as consanguinity.

The school shall be prepared to take the work related to tradition and technology, and also able to think about the state considering the contemporary creations and evolution of tools so that it could raise the young artists prepared to create the theatre of future.

As part of the new TNS project, the team related to artists (actors, directors, writers) participates in the teaching plan. It becomes one of motivators of the whole structure. To cultivate the young artists is to build the future of public theatre in France. So it is important to write them in the history of developing theatre, particularly in the invention of decentralization. The TNS carries this history and shall pass on it which is in its DNA: To meet new audiences, continue this beautiful story and iterate it.
