Since its creation as an Experimental Centre in Vincennes in 1969 and then its establishment in Saint-Denis in 1980, the University of Paris 8 is today a central teaching and research centre in Île-de-France in the field of humanities. A dominant in Arts, Letters, Humanities and Social Sciences, the University of Paris 8 has always had the main objective of bringing students to a better understanding of the contemporary world while providing them with the tools to integrate sustainably into society.

      In this perspective, the innovative nature of the research it proposes has its origins in its openness to fields not previously present in the French University, such as psychoanalysis, geopolitics, cinema, plastic arts, gender, etc.

Paris 8 is also distinguished by its desire to maintain a very strong link between research and teaching, based on pedagogical methods that are intended to adapt to all audiences and to provide training for all, throughout life.
