Snejina Tankovska

Snejina Tankovska obtained the Master Degree in Theatre Director at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts, Sofia (NATFA for short) in 1973. She has studied and did performances at Higher State Theatre Institute Moscow, Birkbeck College, University of London and other art colleges, theatre troupes and foundations. She has been teaching in Acting and Directing since then, and has been employed with the title of Professor in 1999, afterwards she was appointed as the Head of Stage Design Department and Drama Acting and Directing Department at NATFA.

Since 1996, She has served as a Board and Executive Group member in European League of Institutes of the Arts, and actively involved as a judge member in international theatre festivals, competitions and seminars held in Bulgaria, Netherlands, USA and other countries worldwide. She has issued many academic papers, including Networking and Cooperation of European Art Universities, The Artist As Communicator in the Third Millenium, Women in Bulgarian Theatre - A Promise of Preserving and Promoting the Tradition of Theatre As Art etc.

There were nearly 30 plays directed by her, including Twelfth Night (William Shakespeare), Journey To The West (Mary Zimmerman), Liars Club(Neil LaBute), The Illusion(Tony Kushner) etc.

Professor Tankovska was appointed as our Visiting Professor in 2011, and she has visited our Academy several times for conducting serials of lectures and directing graduation plays for teachers and students in Acting Department, including Don Juan, The Tempest (this play has been invited to Singapore for the 8th ATEC International Forum in 2013). And in 2019, she has been worked as the Director of the play The White Snake (Mary Zimmerman) for the Joint Production Project of the WTEA (World Theatre Education Alliance). Also, as the international representative and expert, she has actively attended the judge panel for international activities held by our Academy.
