Kim Maeja is a pioneer and practicer of Korean traditional dance and contemporary dance. She has established Ch'ang Mu Dance Company in 1993, and under which the art festival was hold every year and has been an international dance culture exchanges. Her works has profound meaning and widely influence which often winned international awards.

She worked as art director for dance teams from many countries, and she led native Korean dance team, especially the Ch'ang Mu Dance Company, to do exchanges on dance performing in many countries. She has alway centred on Korean history and cultural tradition, and illustrated in the way of contemporary dance for introducing local dance culture to more audiences.

Kim Maeja has been to the Dance Theatre Department to do academic exchanges in 2015, and gave lessons, did training and rehersal to the Department‘s teachers and students for several times from 2017 to 2019. We have also attended the 24th Ch'ang Mu Dance International Art Festival Korea, had a discussion with art workers of many countries on the current development and innovation of traditional dance, and watched some dance theatres.
