Maria L. Shmaevich

Maria L. Shmaevich has studies at the Theatrical Institute Beit Zvi of Tel Aviv (Israel) from 1991 to 1993. She then got her Master‘s Degree in Performing Arts of the Russian University of Theatre Arts (GITIS), Moscow in 1995, learnt after V. N. Levertov, and obtained the PHD in the major of Scenic Movement in 2002. From 2007 to 2011, she did further study and got the Master‘s Degree in Directing Study taught by I. L.Rayhelgaus.

She takes the position of Professor of Scenic Motion at GITIS currently, also she worked as an actress at the Moscow Academic Theatre and the Director of the Theatre Laboratory. She has conducted many workshops of Scenic Movement and Stage Action in countries and regions including Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Germany, China etc.

Theatre works she acted including Marguerite Gautier in La Dame aux Camelias (written by A.Dumas, directed by A.V.Burdonskij,C.A.T.R.A.), Mary Stuart in Your Sister and Prisoner (written by L. Razumovskaja,directed by A.V.Burdonskij,C.A.T.R.A.), Juliet in Romeo and Juliet (written by Shakespeare, directed by N. Karpov of Vascello Theatre in Rome, Italy) ect.

She directed several theatre works including Highly Secret (written by Majacovskij, acted at Future Theatre Laboratory Moscow), Chasm and Phaedra (written by J. Racine, acted at the Future Theatre Laboratory Moscow), The Bridge (written by E. Shanjavskij, acted at Cantiere Obraze Theatre Italy etc.

Maria L.Shmaevich has been to our Directing Department several times between 2018 to 2019, to teaching acting courses and conducting workshops on Secenic Movement Training.
