On March 10, 2008, a delegation led by Prof, Kevin Thompson, President of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), visited the CAD. During the visit, a discussion was held with the CAD’s Party Secretary Liu Guofu, Vice President Liao Xianghong, Director Cao Ying of the Party Committee Office/President’s Office, and Director Zhou Shaoyu of the Office of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan Affairs.

During the meeting, Secretary Liu Guofu and Vice President Liao Xianghong provided the Hong Kong guests with a comprehensive overview of the CAD’s recent developments. President Thompson expressed pride in having a high-level sister institution like the Central Academy of Drama. Secretary Liu Guofu also emphasized the Central Academy of Drama's commitment to fostering exchanges with arts institutions in Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, highlighting the productive collaboration with the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He expressed the hope for continued friendly cooperation and deeper academic exchanges between the two institutions in the future.

Following the meeting, the delegation from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, consisting of 15 members, also had the opportunity to visit the CAD's Library, Theatre Centre, and other facilities.
